Stu Thorne, Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld.com manager, makes a prediction about Sunday’s national championships – see video at bottom of page
This Sunday’s Cyclocross Nationals Elite Men’s race in Bend, OR, is going to be fireworks from the gun. Never has a more balanced field been assembled and amongst the favorites are the SRAM, Zipp and Avid equipped three musketeers from Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld.com. Tim Johnson is the reigning National Champion and always shines in the races that count, teammate Jamey Driscoll is the darkhorse and ready to pop a big one, and Jeremy Powers is having his best season ever and just wrapped up the USGP series overall with two consecutive wins in Portland.
Teamwork in the cross is about attacks, counterattacks, and blocking. The National Championships is about the win and one single jersey, so individual golas become primary and so Sunday’s race might be about what we can’t see on the backside of the course. Jeremy Powers declared earlier this year his focus on the USGP series and a National Championship, Sunday will be his best opportunity yet. Johnson is a two-time Elite champion and two-time collegiate National Champion Driscoll has little pressure on him.

I caught up with team manager Stu Thorne and got some insight on the team, including rising star Kaitlin Antonneau. Stu comes just short of making a prediction, he is the consummate politician and manager, enjoy the inside line from Stu.

Kaitlin Antonneau will race twice on Sunday, Collegiate and U23…ouch
More previews to be posted tomorrow along with interviews with some of the favorites.
