Moments before Katie Compton (Planet Bike) rolled to the start of what would be her seventh consecutive win at the US Cyclocross Nationals in Bend, OR, she rolled out of her support trailer and took a few moments to catch up with us at SRAM (see video below). Katie is quite simply as close to perfection on a cross bike as you can come, with only a few losses to her name this year, and regularly ranked among the top racers in the world, competitors often know it’s a race for second place.

Compton is always gracious, she takes SRAM, Avid and Zipp equipment across the line first more often than any other cross rider, and I did not expect her to take a few moments with me but she did, she always seems to find time.

She spoke to me about everything everyone wants to know; the course, how she feels, and expectations. As the professional racer she deliberately mentions her equipment, we always appreciate that. Trust me when I say this is not the only time we talk to Katie, or any athlete for that matter, about their equipment. SRAM’s sponsorship and product development team is fully engaged and always trying to find big and small ways to make riders go faster.

Congratulations to Katie and her husband, Mark, for a great Nationals, and a great season so far. Katie has the world cyclocross championships in her site, we will be there, and we look forward to seeing her pulling on the jersey of a Cyclocross World Champion.
