Peter Sagan: The Prodigy

Sagan won the first Spring Classic of his young career

After Milan San-Remo last Sunday, and E3 Harelbeke on Friday, where he finished second, Peter Sagan (Cannondale Pro Cycling), the UCI World Tour Leader, would not miss a third opportunity. The 75th edition of Gent-Wevelgem had to be his! With four kilometres left he attacked with panache on his Cannondale SRAM RED equipped bike, his breakaway companions hesitated, and the victory was his. Known for his cycling talents but also his “bike shows”, the Slovakian Champion popped a wheelie across the finish line to celebrate his first Spring Classic success. Sagan has never commented on whether the ergonomic comfort of the SRAM RED shift lever helps him execute wheelies, but we like to think so.

A consistent theme of the spring races, conditions were freezing, testing riders, as well as their bikes and components. Once again SRAM RED fully demonstrated its reliability.

With six victories this year, Peter Sagan is focused on the two biggest monuments of the Spring Classics: the Ronde van Vlaanderen (March 31, 2013) and Paris-Roubaix (April 7, 2013). Viewed as one of the favourites for the Classics, the youngster feels no pressure, and seems to thrive in the spotlight. There is little doubt we have yet to see his best racing.
