Stepping back into her role of GC leader, in the wake of retired two-time gold medalist Kristin Armstrong, is the now un-retired Mara Abbott. Abbott, a two-time US National Champion, marked her return to Exergy-TWENTY16 with a weekend win at the San Dimas Stage Race (SDSR). The climbing phenom, and previous winner of the Giro Donne (2010), started SDSR with a win in the time trial and, with the assistance of her fine-tuned Exergy-TWENTY16 team, stayed in yellow. Teammates included Lauren Tamayo, Cari Higgins, Alison Tetrick, Kayla Sterling, Christa Ghent, and Rebecca Balboni.
“The San Dimas Stage Race went really well, commented Abbott, “all of the girls were able to contribute and we finished with the jersey! I was thrilled personally to be able to set the tone for the year early on, and I am so excited to be able to race with this group again!”
“I’m extremely happy to have Mara Abbott back on the squad, this was an excellent way for her to return to the professional road circuit”, stated General Manager, Nicola Cranmer, “Mara will be the one to beat in any mountain stages this year.”
Abbott rode a SRAM RED equipped Felt F1, 11-28 cassette, 53-39 chainrings, and Zipp 303 wheels.
