Tenerife, day 1 of the Astana training camp and Lance Armstrong is here for his first training ride with the team. This is not your average training camp, from the paparazzi in front of the hotel to the film team recording everything, to what is possibly the strongest stage race team ever, this is huge. Before the team left for a 3 hour spin the atmosphere was great as Lance caught up with his team, from the old guard to the new guys everyone had a smile on their face. Alberto Contador, Levi Leipheimer and Andreas Kloden joked around with each other showing the teams great spirit. SRAM Liason Alex Wassmann had got Lance’s bike ready early in the morning and they chatted about gear ratio’s and some new ideas before the ride. General Manager Johan Bruyneel made the new guys feel welcome and slipped into the following car to call the shots on this first ride. A final chat between Johan and Lance and the boys hit the road, just like old times!

I had wondered if Lance will ride SRAM or rebadged Shimano–seems like he’s always had a pretty good relationship with Shimano. Good to see SRAM on his bike.
